Shitbox Rally – Spring 2019: Meet the Team P.T 1

The Shitbox Rally is set to kick at the end of this week. As the adventure continues, we want to showcase some of the drivers taking part in the Shitbox Rally – Spring 2019 event, starting in Melbourne and heading for Townsville via Birdsville.

So what is the Shitbox Rally?

Well, you can find out more about it here, but essentially it is a road trip from one iconic Australian destination to the next in cars worth $1,000 or less (shit boxes) to raise much-needed funds for cancer research.

For 2019, it is the 10th anniversary for the Shitbox Rally events so Founder, James Freeman, and the team are taking on the outback in Australia, not just once, but twice, in two different Shitbox rallies, read more here.

Let’s have a look at one of the teams taking part in the rally – Team “Our Wives said No”.

This team consists of two mates from QLD driving a Toyota Hilux, which is disguised by an excessive Mad Max theme complete with a pull-out bar.

How did they come up with your Team name? ‘Our Wives Said No!’ as Jacko said: “[It is] a tribute to our patient loving wives. Like most wives – and I best tread carefully here – often say no to our harebrained ideas. Not to mention all the other cool stuff we as blokes love to do.”

Why did they join the rallying? “One of our dearest friends and biggest supporters of our journey on this rally, Kerry is alive today because of the advances in medical research which are only possible because of funds raised by charities just like Cancer Council”.

“In November 2011 a mark on Kerry’s foot was misdiagnosed as a planter wart, but it was actually melanoma. In 2012 Kerry was told the grim news that it was very unlikely she would see out the next five years. An absolutely heartbreaking prospect for a beautiful, vivacious mother of two small children in the best years of her life.

But now over seven years later and six operations, leg radiation, brain radiation, immunotherapy and just recently a craniotomy on her brain to remove a tumour – and our beautiful Kerry is still with us and living life to the absolute full. During this time there have definitely been lows, but she is a fierce brave fighter with everything to live for. This would not have been possible without the advances in medical research, melanoma treatments and research undertaken in the cancer field.”
