Kids Under Cover and Manheim Partnership Milestone – 15,000 cars donated!

November 14, 2016

National youth homelessness prevention charity, Kids Under Cover (KUC), hit a milestone in October, receiving their 15,000th car donation since they started collecting beat-up bangers, weird old vehicles, trucks, boats and planes for auction.

KUC is a charity partner Manheim have been working with since 2006. As part of KUC, Manheim auctioned off cars donated from the public with the money made from each car going to the charity to help with youth homelessness.

All together, the donated cars have driven over 1.8 billion kilometres – that’s the equivalent of driving to Jupiter and back.

Kids Under Cover has analysed the 15,000 donated cars and have discovered:

  • The most popular car donated is a Ford Falcon
  • 25% of all cars are white, 18% are blue and another 18% are silver
  • The least popular car colours are purple, orange and yellow
  • The most expensive car donated was a 1982 Porsche 911, auctioned for $22,000
  • If all of the donated cars were laid end to end, they would stretch from Melbourne to Bangkok

The partnership with Kids Under Cover is a great achievement for Manheim and the business takes great pride in helping to prevent youth homelessness.

“Manheim have been proud to support Kids Under Cover since 2006, with the collection and auction of 15,000 cars donated across Australia to help prevent youth homelessness,” Mathew McAuley, Communications Manager at Manheim, said.

“We’re excited to be able to continue to help at-risk young people through the Donate Your Car® program.”

After reaching the $5 million mark only a few months ago, Kids Under Cover – with assistance from partners like Manheim – are aiming to help provide stable and secure housing for young people who are living in insecure environments, living temporarily with family and friends, those in unfit or non-conventional environments and those who are subject to overcrowding.

About Kids Under Cover

Established in 1989, Kids Under Cover is a not‑for‑profit organisation dedicated to preventing youth homelessness. Kids Under Cover is focused on early intervention to tackle youth homelessness through practical measures. The organisation helps keep families together by providing re-locatable studios for young people in a carer’s or family’s backyard. These studios give at-risk young people a chance to stay close to their families or carers, and provide them the valuable space they need. The provision of secure accommodation is complemented with further education and training scholarships to financially assist young people who have the passion and the motivation to go on to higher education but do not have the resources. This combination of accommodation and educational support helps keep families together.
